D8: Robot-based pick and mount (RoboPAM)

Several assembly tasks involve a significant number of final product variants or variations in components. Using a flexible manipulation system, capable of click-fitting, screwing or sliding into place, combined with vision to locate and identifies parts and a strong motion planning subsystem allows a future-proof automation of the assembly of highly variable components.

D8: Robot-based pick and mount (RoboPAM)

Demonstrator D8 will pick parts from semi-structured pallet boxes, roller-conveyor buffers and smaller boxes, re-grasp them if needed, assemble them into the initial subunit of a frequency inverter using force- and vision- controlled motions, and place the completed subassembly into the correct variant-specific output buffer. It includes an instruction system whereby a trained shop floor worker adjusts assembly motions by manually guiding the robot through the force-controlled physical mounting process, provide the system with visual and numerical information about the new parts and their fitting as well as adapt the whole cell for new product variants.
