D7: Aeronautic components assembly using flexible dual-arms (FLEXAS)
Aeronautic components are characterised by high quality requirements and small lot size, leading to predominantly manual production by skilled workers. Close collaboration of skilled workers and versatile robots enables partial automation of the manufacturing process.
Demonstrator D7 introduces an existing dual-arm robot into the by now fully manual assembly process for a latch valve as part of the landing gear of an A-330. The 11 parts are collaboratively assembled, with the robot performing the majority of the work and the human operator helping out with specifically difficult subtasks or with operating manual tools like a press used in the fully manual process to adjust a spring load.
The primary focus of demonstrator D7 is on showcasing safe human-robot collaboration and joined recovery from faults.
