Manufacturing in the structural steel sector is characterised by a low return on investment and a highly competitive market. This requires cost effective and versatile automation, capable to deal with rapid changeover and small lot sizes.
Demonstrator D5 shows an innovative dual-arm welding cell with a low footprint on the shop floor. Steel parts are handled using a magnetic gripper on one arm and welded using a specific weld torch on the other arm. When needed, automatic tool changing allows both arms to handle parts to heavy to be lifted by a single arm. The system will combine data from structural steel software information (CAD-like) advanced sensing and user inputs for uncertainty handling.
The demonstrator will focus on human-robot interaction, object recognition and localisation as well as CAD integration with a special emphasis on the assessment phase within a real user’s shop floor environment.
D5 will demonstrate achievements on:
Demonstrator D5 will be installed at end-user NORFERSTEEL – Construções e metalomecânica, S.A with the support of partners INESC TEC and SARKKIS Robotics, Lda.
