Exhibit 04: Mobile and Multipurpose CoWorker

The Robot Assembly Assistant demonstrates how mobile assembly workers can use a robot as “coworker” to improve productivity and working conditions in electronics assembly. Collaboration between robot and worker allows the worker to focus on complex tasks while the robot handles the repetitive tasks such as assembly and screw driving. A skill-based control software handles uncertainties of the process. The intuitive programming makes it easy to change tasks or adapt to completely new products.

DTI: Mobile and Multipurpose CoWorker

Use case

  • Enables the use of robots for automation in mobile assembly setups
  • Productive collaboration between worker and robot
  • Robust to positioning of workpiece and parts with the tolerances of mobile assembly carts
  • Easy to adapt to new products and processes

Technological innovations

  • Skill-based control software makes programming independent of robotic hardware
  • Vision with 3D accuracy based on simple learning from CAD models
  • Easy (re-)training of variations in the process
  • Lean assembly workstation without complex mechanics

Benefits

  • Productive automation in electronic product assembly
  • Fast reconfiguration to variations in the process at shop floor level
  • Multipurpose robot platform suitable for a large variety of assembly tasks
  • Eliminates receptive, strenuous and error prone assembly tasks
