fortiss demonstrates the benefits of combining semantic process knowledge and domain specific user interfaces to enable the use of robots for small lot size production. The shop-floor worker is able to define an assembly task, for example a gearbox, without prior expert knowledge in robotics. The process is defined by configuring geometric constraints between objects in an intuitive 3D interface. Compared to classical programming with a teach-pad, this can lead to a time reduction of up to 85%. In contrast to low-level programming languages, this process description is easily understandable by other users.
